Surrey Hills
Leonie and Tom love living in the leafy suburb of Surrey Hills, Melbourne. Their delightful new home has been designed and built to combine period grace with modern, open plan living. However, the project started as a major challenge for both the owners and the Sherbrooke Design and Construction team.
Recommended by a local draftsman, Sherbrooke Design and Construction were engaged to renovate and extend the period home Leonie and Tom had lived in for 16 years.
- Blend of Period Features & Modern Design
- Skylights Throughout
- Seamless Indoor/Outdoor Living
- Alfresco Verandah Entertaining Area
Upon commencement of the project, whilst pulling back the the old plaster to make way for the new structure, it was discovered the materials used previously did not comply with the building code. In fact, it was that bad that Sherbrooke Design and Construction called in an engineer to make an assessment.
The engineers report confirmed the Surrey Hills home was not compliant and the project could no longer go proceed as planned. Graham, business owner and Director of Sherbrooke Design and Construction said that in his 30 years of building he had not come across a situation before and he felt devastated for the owners who had their heart set on the proposed extension and renovation.
The Sherbrooke Design and Construction design team quickly put together a few options and, working with Leonie and Tom, they developed plans for an affordable, two storey home.
Once council permits were obtained it was ‘all systems go’ with the knockdown and rebuild of the new home. The end results are stunning and both Tom and Leonie are now happy they had to start afresh.
